Explanation of at-Tahiyaat

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani | Thursday, Dec 06, 2007 | Fenton, MI US

[Imam Senad and his associate were discussing:to liman al-jam`, the plural referred to in at-tahiyaat, where we say, as-salaamu `alayna wa `ala `ibadillah as-saliheen? We know the souls were gathered at that time…?]

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani:

A`udhu billahi min ash-shaytaan ir-rajeem

Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem

Always in Arabic al-jam` to speak in plural, is out of respect. When we write a letter we say “aamalu an tasilu hadhihi risalat - We hope that this letter will reach you. But in higher respect we say, “naamalu an tasilu hadhihi risalat” [nun] that is for tafkheem, for a more majestic way of expressing. But in this question of in at-tahiyaat, “why is it mentioned in plural?” and there are many different interpretation and explanations.

One of them that I feel is nice to explain is that the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam has been asked for Mi’raj, invited for ascension, and in that ascension he was at the level of mushahadah, the level of vision. He was seeing, and he was telling and expressing himself of what hee was of “seeing”. Now when we read today we recite at-tahiyat lillahi was-salawat wat-tayyibaat. Do we see anything? Can you see? [that is why it is called tashahhud]

The Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam when he began with tashahhud, he was in state of complete vision, and [saying] “I bear witness!” When you say ashhadu an La ilaha ill-Alla , do you see anything?

Ya Rabbee andhuru, ash-shahid alladhee yara shay asbaha shahidan fa innama naqul nashad.. qad yakoon an nara. Wa lakin la nara shay.

When we declare something we are witnessing something. As in a court when they call you as a witness. If you saw something they call you in, isn’t it? If not why the judge will call you? They send you away.

So the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam in his ascension as he was raised in every step he was seeing:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ شَاهِدًا وَمُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا

Ya ayyuha an-nabiyyu inna arsalnaaka shaahidan wa mubashshiran wa nadheera

O Prophet! Truly We have sent thee as a Witness, a Bearer of Glad Tidings, and Warner, Al-Ahzab [33:45]

Witness on what? Witness (O Prophet!) on what you saw and what We showed you and shahid on them, witness on them. So Allah called the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam shahid, but not us. That is why our shahada is not real shahada even. Our tawheed is not real tawheed. When people become Muslim they say shahada, they repeat ashhadu an la ilah ill-Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammad Rasulullah, but that is not the real one. That is imitational.

Ash-shahada al-haqiqiyya indama tash-hadu `ala ma taqool.

The prophet was able to see from his home to Masjid al-Aqsa and from there to qaaba qawsayni and he CAME to teach us good manners in the Divine Presence. So when we say at-tahiyaatu… when he said it he was in the Divine Presence of Allah, “my salutation to Allah,” he said it in a way a tense that there is still a gap that cannot be completely be there in that place, one-to-one, that cannot be. That is why he said, "at-tahiyyatu lillahi,” in third person, was-salawaat, he gave his salam, when you open something you say at-tahiyyaat, the salutation - the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam gave the salutation there; then Allah opened to him the feeling, that “Ya Muhammad! Now send Me salawaat, prayers.” And then what? Wa at-tayyibat. The salutation is opening and then entered the prayers, and then the best of everything.

فقال صلى الله عليه وسلم: "إن الله تعالى طيب يحب الطيب،

“Inna Allah ta`ala tayyib wa yuhibb at-tayyib – Allah the Most High is the best and he doest like except the best.”

So when he entered in that presence with that respect it was sent to him that message, “as-salaamu `alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu - I am sending my salam on you.”

Similarly we are learning that when we do at-tahiyyaat, “adkhul al-buyoota min abwaabiha - Enter the house from the doors.” To imitate the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, in order to reach maqaam at-tawheed, maqaam al-mushaahada, we must follow a certain procedure. We cannot enter the mosque without going through the door. The door to reach the maqaam al-mushaahada is to go through Allah and His Prophet. In order to reach the kalimat at-tashahhud at the end, where we say ashhadu an la ilah ill-Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammad Rasulullah that means Allah is preparing us to send on us the manifestation of maqaam al-mushahada.

So open the salutation and then send the best and then Allah sends salam on the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam: as-salaamu `alayk ayyuha ’n-nabi wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. When He sends salutation to His prophet he sends with it his mercy and blessing and that is for the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam and no one can share in that if the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam doesn’t want anyone to share it. That is from the Divine Presence of qaaba qawsayni, at that moment Grandshaykh and Mawlana Shaykh said that at that level, when Allah spoke to the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, “as-salaamu `alayk ayyuha ’n-nabi wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,” He sends salutation and He showed him the whole Dhurriyyat Bani Adam, the children, descendants of Adam Alayhissalam, He showed them all to him in that presence and they are all so clean, not one single sin on them, not one single darkness on them. Because souls they are clean and pure. He showed them very clean and He said, "Ya Muhammad! This is from My Mercy: as-salam `alayku ayyuha ’n-nabi wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. I am offering you this Ummah as a trust, clean from me. You like to take that?

And the awliya as in interpretation he said, “Of course My Lord, I accept.” And Allah said, “And you give them back to Me as I gave them to you clean.”

At that moment, Allah opened to see their realities to see how much bloodshed they will do when then come to dunya then they appeared all dark.

That is when the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam asked for supporters, mu`ineen. And that is why he heard at that time Sayyidina Abu Bakr’s voice there, in order to feel at ease. And Grandshaykh said, that not only hearing him, but seeing him as well. And he saw Sayyidina `Ali (r), that big lion, and he asked, “who is that?” He said, "That is your cousin `Ali.” And that is why tariqats come from Sayyidina Abu Bakr (r) and Sayyidina `Ali (r), because they were the only two there at that time.

And so from that secret, Allah gave from Sayyidina Abu Bakr and Sayyidina `Ali (r), Allah gave 124000 saints and they are on footsteps of 124,000 prophets.

As we know in the Tafsir of Surat al-`Araaf, where Sayyidina ibn `Abbas (r) explained that verse:

Wa lamma ja’a Musa li-meeqatina wa kallamahu rabbuhu qaala rabbi arinee andhur ilayka qaala lan taraanee wa laakini unthur ila al-jabali fa ini ’staqarra makaanahu fa sawfa taraanee falamma tajalla rabbuhu li’l-jabali ja`alahu dakkan wa kharra Musa sa`iqan falamma afaaqa qaala subhaanaka tubtu ilayka wa ana awwalu al-mumineen.

When Moses came to the place appointed by Us, and his Lord addressed him, He said: "O my Lord! show (Thyself) to me, that I may look upon thee." Allah said: "By no means canst thou see Me (direct); But look upon the mount; if it abide in its place, then shalt thou see Me." When his Lord manifested His glory on the Mount, He made it as dust. And Moses fell down in a swoon. When he recovered his senses he said: "Glory be to Thee! to Thee I turn in repentance, and I am the first to believe." [7:143]

falama afaaq … when he woke up, Sayyidina Musa Alayhissalam, he saw, as ibn Abbas Radiallahu anhu said, in tafsir Ruh al-Bayan, as soon a he raised his head up, he saw 313 prophets raising their heads and in front of them, Sayyidina Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam. They are all making du`a and he saw the rest of the prophets up to 124,000 in sajda.

That is why many people today ask, “Where you got the number of anbiya as 124,000?” Especially some people we don’t want to mention their names. That is from Sayyidina ibn `Abbas Radiallahu anhu, it is not something hidden. That is in tafsir Surat al-`Araaf.

So 124,000 prophet there are 124,000 inheritors, 12400 saints. Awliyaullah.

So the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, as soon as he saw that darkness, whom he accepted pure as he received them, then he said, “Give me mu`eeneen `ala amree - Give me helpers and they are the 124,000 saints. So the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam divided the Ummah on those 124,000 to take care of them until Judgment Day.

So then when that happened the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam is answering Allah back, as-salaamu `alayna wa `ala `ibaadillah as-saliheen meaning on himself on Abu Bakr Radiallahu anhu and on the angels present and on the 124,000 saints, and then on `ibaadillah as-saliheen - the souls that You gave in my hand pure, the ones who were present in the from of souls in the presence of the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam.

There the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam gave us first talqeen, the first putting on our tongue to say: ashhadu an La ilaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu an muhammadan Rasulullah, everyone was there saying ashhadu an La ilaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu an muhammadan Rasulullah, Everyone of that Ummah were saying that shahada and that is why as-salaamu `alayna includes the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam himself and Sayyidina Abu Bakr Radiallahu anhu and Sayyidina `Ali (r) and then 124,000 wali and then those who are there in that presence, everyone was there and everyone was witnessing the real tawheed that was happening there in the state of vision. That is one of the meaning that has been described by that by Grandshaykh.

Now for us, when we recite it, it is a completely different way. This is what happened to the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam in the Divine Presence. For us when we recite we are preparing to enter, the station of:

قل آن كنتم تحبون الله فأتبعوني يحببكم الله

Qul: In kuntum tuhiboon Allah fatabi`oonee yuhbibkumullah

Say (O Muhammad!): "If ye do love Allah, Follow me: Allah will love you” Surat Ali-`Imran [3:31]

We have to follow the way of Sayyidina Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam and we first open the door by giving greetings to Allah. When we make at-tahiyyaat we must make muraqabah, that we are in the presence of Allah as prayers in the Presence of Allah. So when we say at-tahiyyat [it means] “I am coming to Your Presence, open Your door!” Then He says, “you cannot come to Me without salutation on the Prophet,” so that is why we open by saying as-salamu `alayk ya ayyuha’n-nabi.

So that is why there was a debate between the other Sahaba and ibn Mas`ud Radiallahu anhu, he referred to the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam in his absence as-salaamu `alayhi. He said, "In his life he was present and now he is not so we refer to him in the absent form.” That was big debate between the Sahaba and they were saying as-salamu `alayhi [after his passing from this life] and then they said, “no he is present and we say salam to him as present.”

There was big debate, but when you call for him, then he is present.

So the first is greeting to Allah, but Allah is saying, “you cannot come to Me directly but you must go through the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam.” That is why harf an-nida, then you call on the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam directly.

Then after that you say as-salamu `alayna, who is it being read on at that time, not at the time the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam recited it? It is on us and on the angels on our shoulders, that is why it comes in plural, salaam on me and on the two angels - that is why it is in plural. You don’t say as-salaamu `alayya, as the Qur'an mentioned about Sayyidina `Isa Alayhissalam.

وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيَّ يَوْمَ وُلِدتُّ وَيَوْمَ أَمُوتُ وَيَوْمَ أُبْعَثُ حَيًّا

As-salamu alayya yawma wulidtu wa yawma amootu wa yawma ub`athu hayya.

"So peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the day that I shall be raised up to life (again)"! Maryam [19:33]

… you are mentioning here salaam on yourself and on the two angels that Allah kept with you all the time, moving with you and seeing what you have done and waiting for when you repent from any sins. They are considered partners for you all your life when you say salam on them then they will intercede for you on Judgment Day.

And then as-salamu `alayna wa `ala `ibadillah as-saliheen, as the Prophet encouraged us to pray in jama`at and they are around you when the believers are praying and also even when you pray alone there might be jinn who inhabit house with you and pray with you and there might be angels as well who are for sure `ibadillah as-saliheen.

Then when you do that you fit the verse: idh dhalamoo anfusahum….

Then the salutation on you from the manifestation of ar-Rahman and I am dressing that on you and on the people and angels with you and then you are ready to say shahada ashhadu an La ilaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu anna muhammadan `abduhu wa rasuluh.

Now many people say and thy are veiled but if you focus when you say it and focus you will feel a presence and that will raise you up to maqaam al-mushahada, as you do that every time, you will be raised in ever prayer raising five levels and five levels until you …

That is why as-salaat mir`aj l-mu’min – prayer is the ascension of the believer.

That is why salaat in jama`at multiplies the rewards by 28 it goes higher and higher. As you re praying in jama`at it doesn’t raise you only 28 but on everyone praying with you it multiplies with that. If 10 people it is 280 and if 100 people it is 28000. So when you make Allahu Akbar, you make intention “I am praying with all Your angels and with Your Prophet and with all Your prophets and with all the Ummah and with all Your servants.” That is a good intention: “innama al-`amaalu bin-niyyaat - Verily deeds are by intention and to every person is what he intended.”

I remember when Grandshaykh used to pray he would intend Nawaytu'l-arba`een, nawaytu'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu'l-khalwah, nawaytu'l-riyaada, nawaytu's-salook, nawaytu'l-`uzlah lillahi ta`ala fee hadha'l-masjid an usalee muqtadiyyan bi rasulillah mustaqbilan al-ka`batu ’sh-shareef.

He is imam and for example your imam is Mawlana Shaykh but when he is praying his imam is the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam as the Prophet said, I am alive fresh in my grave. So the kabah is there.

Today they say don’t make niyyah, “Allahu Akbar!” and start. Niyyah is known. So they are canceling all these.

They say, “an-niyyatu fi’l-qalb – intention in the heart,” why mention on tongue, that is a bida`.

So that gives you a hint that when you are praying with the imam or by yourself you must know who is your imam really. That is why when we go to Makkah or Madina, he said, pray behind the imam but know whatever he is, there is another imam there. That there is a real imam appointed by Sayyidina Rasulullah but you cannot see him, you see the one appointed by the people.

So you say, “muqtadiyyan li Rasulullah – following the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam of Allah.” He is there. Was he not praying with Sayyidina Musa Alayhissalam when he went on Isra, he said, “I saw Sayyidina Musa Alayhissalam praying in his grave.” Why is the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam not praying in his grave? Is Sayyidina Musa Alayhissalambetter than Sayyidina Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam? So he is praying, “my imam is Sayyidina Muhammad. Innama al-`amaalu bin-niyyaat, Verily all actions are by intentions. Which imam. Is it not better to be praying behind the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam .

We don’t know where is his head and his toes.

One time there was a majdhoob, dervish, you know, and he entered praying in jama`at and as soon as he came he came form back , back and praying behind the imam directly and the imam said “Allahu Akbar” beginning praying and that majdhoob, he gave one big gas, out and he madetuz from his mouth and from his mouth made some sound and took his shoes and left. Everyone was laughing, because behind the imam, when he is doing it and taking his shoes and running. And they caught him and said, “come here.” They brought him to the imam. The Imam said, “why you made fun of the prayer? Why you have passed wind in a big sound?”

He is majdhoob he knows how to do that? He looked at him, and said, “batalati’s-salaat al-musaleen – you ruined the prayer of the people. And now they have to take wudu. You delayed the prayer.” He said, "is it not better than their prayer to be invalid?” The people said, "Now we have to punish him”: Then he said, “why, do you want me to tell them what you were saying when you said Allahu Akbar and entered in the prayer?” The imam said, "no, no, no.” Then the majdhoob said, “No I want to tell them, because you brought me here.” He said, “No, no, no need to tell them, go make wudu and come later to my home.”

Then the majdhoob came to his house, and said, “Are you not ashamed, O imam, that you entered the prayer and you were thinking of my neighbors’ daughter that ‘I would like to marry her.’ Not only that not marry but ‘I would like to sleep with her.’”

But with all that we follow the imam. But the heart that is to Allah. When we pray imam bad thoughts come and go, so Grandshaykh was teaching us the intention, “my imam is the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam and adaban from us, our imam is our shaykh and our shaykh is following the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallamand we are in front of Ka`bah.” Then whatever imam is there we are intending to be following the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam.

So now we go and pray there.

Bi hurmatil Fatiha.

That is good question.

[I have another question, why we do it sitting, not standing since it is such a big thing. Sitting is kind of relaxing, but qiyaam, to me is higher.]

There are things sometime you have to follow procedure. Standing is to prepare yourself for the biggest event, when you are at the door you are standing, when you are invited inside you are sitting. Outside you stand as much as you like.

[so conversation was inside.]

After all protocol has taken place, him and Sayyidina Jibreel Alayhissalam, in every heavens, there, and reaching the level where Jibreel Alayhissalam was not able to continue and then he continue to qaaba qawsayni that is different perspective. That is in complete relaxation. When you come to a house you come standing, not sitting. But when you are in the house the host tells you to sit, not to keep standing. Already you gave respect and now you can relax and address what you want to address.

Like you go in front of a leader. Take for example a king, president or royal crown prince. You don’t remain standing. Especially when there is familiarity and you feel that happiness. So it is a procedure. You stand in respect in order to be able to enter then in position to make salam, to relax and meditate more in order to reach that.

That is why Allah said in Holy Qur'an. Alladheena yadhkuroona Allah… that is first level higher level then the higher level is qu`oodan. Standing - giving respect, “Ya Rabbee open, open!” Then He opens and gives you to feel more relaxed. Then laying on their sides. `Ala junoobihim - Lay on your side. Allah said on sides not on your back.

When you lie, how do they lay you? On side or on the back. They lay you like that [Mawlana lies on side slightly] not on the back [lies on his back.]

Allah said `ala junoobihim.

When you die then where you are laid? The highest level of submission. First level is standing, then when accepted, you sit and then when you are completely submitting that is laying down.

That is why it is sitting, not standing.

So after you pray what you do? After you keep sitting then you take a nap. You lay down. You tell people, “I am tired, I am going to lay down.” That is the last one.

So that is why he said, “If you want to see someone who ‘died before he died’ look at Abu Bakr as-Siddiq.” And he said, "look at another sahabi.”

May Allah give us real submission bihurmati’l-Fatiha.

After Salat adh-Dhuhr

Published in 1325, the publisher Bafaqih al-alawi.

I wont read all but I want to read one thing:

Nara min ath-thuqat … we see from trustworthy people that they brought from an-Najd a huge bida`, and we answered them in a book calledas-Sayf as-Saqeel, the Heavy Sword, and I put in a book a debate between him and an imam of that time, imam al-`Isa al-Uwaysi and shaykh Ahmad explained that debate and more debate from Shaykh `Abdur Rahman al-Ufaliq, titled The Imitators of the Innovators

And I asked him several questions. What are these questions. I am going to quote only one of these questions.

Explanation of At-Tahiyat

One of them that I feel is nice to explain is that the Prophet (s) has been asked for Mi’raj, invited for ascension, and in that ascension he was at the level of mushahadah, the level of vision. He was seeing, and he was telling and expressing himself of what hee was of “seeing”. Now when we read today we recite at-tahiyat lillahi was-salawat wat-tayyibaat. Do we see anything? Can you see? Ya Rabbee andhuru, ash-shahid alladhee yara shay asbaha shahidan fa innama naqul nashad.. qad yakoon an nara. Wa lakin la nara shay.

When we declare something we are witnessing something. As in a court when they call you as a witness. If you saw something they call you in, isn’t it? If not why the judge will call you? They send you away.

So the Prophet (s) in his ascension as he was raised in every step he was seeing:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ شَاهِدًا وَمُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا

O Prophet! Truly We have sent thee as a Witness, a Bearer of Glad Tidings, and Warner, Al-Ahzab [33:45]

Witness on what? Witness (O Prophet!) on what you saw and what We showed you and shahid on them, witness on them. So Allah called the Prophet (s) shahid, but not us. That is why our shahada is not real shahada even. Our tawheed is not real tawheed. So when he entered in that presence with that respect it was sent to him that message, “as-salaamu `alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu - I am sending my salam on you.”

Similarly we are learning that when we do at-tahiyyaat, “adkhul al-buyoota min abwaabiha - Enter the house from the doors.” To imitate the Prophet (s), in order to reach maqaam at-tawheed, maqaam al-mushaahada, we must follow a certain procedure.

When he recovered his senses he said: "Glory be to Thee! to Thee I turn in repentance, and I am the first to believe." [7:143]

falama afaaq … when he woke up, Sayyidina Musa , he saw, as ibn Abbas said, in tafsir Ruh al-Bayan, as soon a he raised his head up, he saw 313 prophets raising their heads and in front of them, Sayyidina Muhammad (s). They are all making du`a and he saw the rest of the prophets up to 124,000 in sajda.

That is why many people today ask, “Where you got the number of anbiya as 124,000?” Especially some people we don’t want to mention their names. That is from Sayyidina ibn `Abbas , it is not something hidden. That is in tafsir Surat al-`Araaf.

So 124,000 prophet there are 124,000 inheritors, 12400 saints. Awliyaullah.

So the Prophet (s), as soon as he saw that darkness, whom he accepted pure as he received them, then he said, “Give me mu`eeneen `ala amree - Give me helpers and they are the 124,000 saints. So the Prophet (s) divided the Ummah on those 124,000 to take care of them until Judgment Day.

So then when that happened the Prophet (s) is answering Allah back, as-salaamu `alayna wa `ala `ibaadillah as-saliheen meaning on himself on Abu Bakr and on the angels present and on the 124,000 saints, and then on `ibaadillah as-saliheen - the souls that You gave in my hand pure, the ones who were present in the from of souls in the presence of the Prophet (s).

There the Prophet (s) gave us first talqeen, the first putting on our tongue to say: ashhadu an La ilaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu an muhammadan Rasulullah, everyone was there saying ashhadu an La ilaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu an muhammadan Rasulullah, Everyone of that Ummah were saying that shahada and that is why as-salaamu `alayna includes the Prophet (s) himself and Sayyidina Abu Bakr and Sayyidina `Ali (r) and then 124,000 wali and then those who are there in that presence, everyone was there and everyone was witnessing the real tawheed that was happening there in the state of vision. That is one of the meaning that has been described by that by Grandshaykh.

Now for us, when we recite it, it is a completely different way. This is what happened to the Prophet (s) in the Divine Presence. For us when we recite we are preparing to enter, the station of:

قل آن كنتم تحبون الله فأتبعوني يحببكم الله

Qul: In kuntum tuhiboon Allah fatabi`oonee yuhbibkumullah

Say (O Muhammad!): "If ye do love Allah, Follow me: Allah will love you” Surat Ali-`Imran [ 3:31 ]

We have to follow the way of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and we first open the door by giving greetings to Allah.

So that is why there was a debate between the other Sahaba and ibn Mas`ud , he referred to the Prophet (s) in his absence as-salaamu `alayhi.

So the first is greeting to Allah, but Allah is saying, “you cannot come to Me directly but you must go through the Prophet (s).” That is why harf an-nida, then you call on the Prophet (s) directly.

Then after that you say as-salamu `alayna, who is it being read on at that time, not at the time the Prophet (s) recited it? It is on us and on the angels on our shoulders, that is why it comes in plural, salaam on me and on the two angels - that is why it is in plural. You don’t say as-salaamu `alayya, as the Qur'an mentioned about Sayyidina `Isa .

Maryam [ 19:33 ]

I remember when Grandshaykh used to pray he would intend Nawaytu'l-arba` een, nawaytu'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu'l-khalwah, nawaytu'l-riyaada, nawaytu's-salook, nawaytu'l-`uzlah lillahi ta`ala fee hadha'l-masjid an usalee muqtadiyyan bi rasulillah mustaqbilan al-ka`batu ’sh-shareef.

He is imam and for example your imam is Mawlana Shaykh but when he is praying his imam is the Prophet (s) as the Prophet said, I am alive fresh in my grave.

So you say, “muqtadiyyan li Rasulullah – following the Prophet (s) of Allah.” He is there. Was he not praying with Sayyidina Musa when he went on Isra, he said, “I saw Sayyidina Musa praying in his grave.” Why is the Prophet (s) not praying in his grave? Is Sayyidina Musa better than Sayyidina Muhammad (s)? So he is praying, “my imam is Sayyidina Muhammad.. Innama al-`amaalu bin-niyyaat, Verily all actions are by intentions. Which imam. Is it not better to be praying behind the Prophet (s) .

We don’t know where is his head and his toes.

One time there was a majdhoob, dervish, you know, and he entered praying in jama`at and as soon as he came he came form back , back and praying behind the imam directly and the imam said “Allahu Akbar” beginning praying and that majdhoob, he gave one big gas, out and he made tuz from his mouth and from his mouth made some sound and took his shoes and left.

When we pray imam bad thoughts come and go, so Grandshaykh was teaching us the intention, “my imam is the Prophet (s) and adaban from us, our imam is our shaykh and our shaykh is following the Prophet (s) and we are in front of Ka`bah.” Then whatever imam is there we are intending to be following the Prophet (s).

After all protocol has taken place, him and Sayyidina Jibreel , in every heavens, there, and reaching the level where Jibreel was not able to continue and then he continue to qaaba qawsayni that is different perspective.

May Allah give us real submission bihurmati’l-Fatiha..

The Sacrifice of Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) and Sayyidina Ismail (as)

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

Bismillahir Rohmaanir Rohim

O Muslims! Believers. In two days time it is the Eid of al-Adha. It is the day that Allah swt ordered Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) to slaughter and to give as a sacrifice his son, to Allah swt.

And that is an important day that Ibrahim (as) was been tested and it was on Arafat day, one day before Eid. When Allah swt wants to see if Ibrahim (as) will listen and obey or not.

So before entering in the story, which we will summarize it, the Prophet (s) mentioned many hadith about the day of Arafat and I will quote one or two hadiths in order that it will benefit us.

It says that `an abi hurayran `an an-Nabi (s), man saama yawma `arafa ghafar'allahu ta`ala ma taqadam min dhanbih. Allah will forgive All his sins up to that day. For Allah that is a very important day. All the pilgrims who went for hajj are asking Allah for forgiveness and saying labayk Allahuma labayk, labayk la shareek laka labayk. Inna al-hamda w'an-ni`mata laka wa'l-mulk la shareeka lak. They are showing unity in one cloth, one dress, king, president, normal people in one dress keeping the hadith: "there is no different between Arab and non-Arab except through righteousness. "

It is so simple if Allah will give us energy and support to fast that day which is Sunday the benefit is that all sins you made form before that day have been forgive and you will be as if newly born. and the Prophet (s) said in another hadith said:

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال سمعت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول :( من حج لله فلم يرفث ولم يفسق رجع كيوم ولدته أمه ) رواه البخاري

"Whoever make hajj and does not engage in (lawful) sexual relations and does no wickedness and does not argue, returns as the day his mother bore him." [Bukhari

for as Allah said:

For Hajj are the months well known. If any one undertakes that duty therein, Let there be no obscenity, nor wickedness, nor wrangling in the Hajj. And whatever good ye do, (be sure) Allah knoweth it. And take a provision (With you) for the journey, but the best of provisions is right conduct. So fear Me, o ye that are wise. Al-Baqara [2:197]

So: la rafatha wa la fusooq wa la jidaala fi'l-hajj, … you cannot have any sexual relations with your wife and you cannot look at anything that is haraam and if you avoid arguing too much, then you return from hajj as if you are newly born.

So it means that Allah doesn't like in hajj arguments or backbiting or rumors in hajj and he doesn't allow any sexual relationship because you are going for worship you cannot do that in worship.

So the most important principle of hajj is Arafat, if you missed it you missed the main principle and fundamental of hajj. That is why Arafat is the most important day of hajj and why the Prophet (s) recommended to fast that day.

When Allah revealed the verse about Arafat,

This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. 5:3

This day I have completed for you religion and I am continuously giving you my favor. And the Sahaba were happy that they have been victorious evil powers and they opened Mecca and they were able to go back and make pilgrimage. All were happy but Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, he was crying. They asked him, "why are you crying?" He said, "maa b`ad al-kamaal illa an-nuqsaan - When you achieve the highest level there is nothing except going down." [It means] When the moon reaches the full there is nothing else but to go down.

He said, "we are going to see sadness in our lives. I feel that the Prophet (s) is not going to be among us." And after exactly 80 days the Prophet (s) left dunya. So it was the last hajj and the last `umrah for the Prophet (s). and that hadith came for the importance of fasting on that day.

So O Muslims! Try to fast on that day. If you have excuse it is ok if you don't have sickness s or dizziness it is ok. Then if you can fast then Allah will forgive you your mistakes.

It is called `Arafat because `Arafat is from `arafa, it is that Allah introduced or made something clear. What did he make clear? He made it clear to Ibrahim (as) to sacrifice his son and that is one of the reasons it has that same. To make clear to Ibrahim (as).

And it is said in traditions. In the seerah, in Tafsir an-Nisaburi, that Hajar the wife of Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) was not happy after Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) married her and she was feeling that there was a problem with his wife Sara, the first wife and so she decided to leave. And when she was leaving she heard a message saying to her, "Where are you going? You are going to have a child. You are going to have too many offspring that are coming from you. Stay where you are, don't run away."

She stayed and Allah made her pregnant with Sayyidina Isma`il (as). And after the boy grew up Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) was taking care of that child and used to love him so much and one day, Allah swt, in a certain moment ordered Jibreel, "go, Ya Jibreel and tell Ibrahim (as) to slaughter his son for me!" and Jibreel (as) he said, "Ya Rabbee. I made a good relations hip with Ibrahim (as). You were sending me with revelation to him. I cannot. I will do Your order, but if there is a way he will get that directly without me giving him that news that will be great." Allah is the merciful one he sent that ruya to Ibrahim (as).

Falamma balagha ma`ahu as-sa`ya qaala ya bunayya innee araa fi 'l-manaami annee adhbahuka fa undhur madhaa taraa qaala ya abatee if`al maa tumaru sa-tajidunee insha- Allahu mina as-saabireen

Then, when (the son) reached (the age of) (serious) work with him, he said: "O my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice: Now see what is thy view!" (The son) said: "O my father! Do as thou art commanded: thou will find me, if Allah so wills one practising Patience and Constancy!" As-Saffat [37:102]

Qaala ya bunaya innee araa fi'l-manami… he is seeing the dream one after another time.

So the first time he sacrificed 100 sheep for the sake of his son.

So that is why sincere people today when they have a serious sickness like cancer, they go an sacrifice 100 sheep and many times we observe that the patient was cured due to the sacrifice.

So after that he saw the dream another time. And he thought Allah would accept the slaughter of 100 sheep. But he saw dream again and then 3rd time.

Then he told his wife to put oil on the head of his son and he would take him out. And the wife asked "where are you taking him?" He said, "I have been ordered by Allah to sacrifice my son." She looked at her son and looked at Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) and said, "If Allah ordered you to do that, you do it." And then he took his son up to the mountain and then told him, "Let us play as they play today, hide and seek, put on the blindfold."

Isma`il (as) said, "O my father why are you wasting my time. Do what you have been ordered. I am not afraid. He wants me to be a sacrifice let it be. O my father be patient on difficulty, no problems. Don't lose your temper. I am ok, take me and slaughter me but take the shirt that is on me and take it to my mother before it gets blood on it. And take it to my mother so she will remember me with that shirt, and tell my mother that I left my son to the One who is better than everyone. I left my son to Allah swt."

Faqala Ibrahim ya rabb irham d`afee wa kibra sannee. Ibrahim said, "O Allah be merciful with me," fa in lam tarhamnee farham hadha al-walad alladhee la dhamba lah. They say he was 7 or 9 years and the angels fell into crying and doors of heavens opened, as soon as that happened he took the knife and put it on his neck and in some narrations they say that Isma`il (as) smelled some meat barbecuing. He said, "O my father what happened? I am smelling barbecue." He said, "O my son this is the smell of my heart."

Look how Allah is giving us good life and we are complaining. Allah ordered Jibreel to go quickly adrikhu idha qata` as-sakeen shaya la-mahwanaak. If you don't stop it I will take you from My Presence and Jibreel ordered the knife to stop fa lam taqta` shayan and in the Tafsir of an-Nasafi, Ibrahim (as) felt he didn't fulfill the order of Allah and he took it and threw it as if it became a useless knife. Allah hid from him that He had ordered Jibreel to prevent the knife from cutting. The knife asked, "Why are you angry?" to Ibrahim (as) and he said, "Because you didn't cut what Allah wants you to cut." And the knife said, "If you are angry with me why are you not angry with the fire of Nimrod that they throw you in and it didn't not burn you?" he said, "because Allah ordered the fire not to burn me." And the knife said, "And Allah ordered me not to cut Isma`il's neck." And the knife said, "Jibreel ordered me 70 times not to cut - I was cutting and I
was ordered not to cut."

And then Isma`il (as), when Ibrahim (as) took him out and Allah ordered him to slaughter a ram for safety of Sayyidina Isma`il (as) he said to his father, Let me ask this question of you. Are you more generous or you? a-ana akramu minka aw anta." Qala Ibrahim (as), ..ana akram minka fa ana takaramtu waladee… Ibrahim (s) said, " I gave you - I gave my son." (and remember Sayyidina Isma`il (as) is carrying the light of Sayyidina Muhammad (s), how is he going to die? It is test for Sayyidina Ibrahim (as). It is test for us. Are we going to sacrifice for sake of the Prophet or not. Are we doing to follow his Sunnah or not. Are we going to obey or not).

So Sayyidina Isma`il (as) said, "No I am better. You were generous to give me but I gave my soul - Ana takaramtu ruhee. I am the one who is losing. You are not giving your soul. You are giving me. For the sake of the whole Ummah." He is carrying the secret of Sayyidina Muhammad (s).

This `Arafah is an important day and it is day of sacrifice. Let us try to fast that today and asking Allah "O our Lord! Forgive us our sins, for the sake of Sayyidina Muhammad (s), for the sake of Sayyidina Ibrahim (as); for the sake of Sayyidina Isma`il (as) and for the sake of those standing on `Arafah. Share us with their pilgrimage and write us from those who went for this pilgrimage and with every pilgrimage and share us with the Prophet's pilgrimage."

Audhu billah min ash-Shaytan ir-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem
Nawaytu'l-arba` een, nawaytu'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu'l-khalwah, nawaytu'l-riyaada, nawaytu'l-`uzlah, nawaytu's-salook, lillahi ta`ala fee hadha'l-masjid

Everything in this… dastoor ya sayyidee madad, we ask from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim; we ask support from Grandshaykh; we ask support from the Prophet (s). Everything in this life makes you amazed. Because you can see behavior of people in different ways. Go to a in a crowded street or a crowded mall, you see people going and people coming. People going this way, people going that way, east, west, north south, everyone is trying to listen to the command that comes to him or to her into their minds, that makes their body move in different directions.

It makes you stunned, how everyone is moving in a sep. direction. You don’t set hem all going the same way or all going the same way. You cannot find two people have the same mind. It might be the shape of the mind, the brain is similar but thinking is not.

Everyone is thinking in a different way. It is like we are in a box and that box has many holes in it. And everyone inside the box is looking and seeing lights coming. This one Says “O that is a green light,” that one says, "O I see a red light,” that one say, "O that is a yellow light.” All are in the box and seeing lights coming. And this one sees this one small ray coming; that one sees a colored one coming. But in reality it is all the same when you open the box, you find yourself in that light and that light never changes, but we see it every one is different.

So the important is that depend on every time of life, Allah swt send someone that guide these people, to take them to their destinies. And to take them to the way they prefer to be. And I am trying to express it but I am not finding the correct words because it is beyond our language. There is no language to express the reality of what I am trying to say .

People migrate from different countries to different countries. Migrate, we cannot live home any more we want to move to a different country. And they move, and you will see many people of the country they moved into they moved out to the country the people came from.

How many, you left Ivory Coast, you came here. How many similar from here went to Ivory Coast? Many. Who is that one moving you? Who is that one that moving everyone in a different direction? Someone might build a house, very nice house, he doesn’t go in it, someone comes and buys it.

Who is moving these? We say and we have to say, every time we have to say that Allah is the One that is directing everyone in a different direction. What you own, you don’t own, someone will take it, what someone has you will take it and everyone as if you are leaving everything that is in this dunya is moving between the hands of people and at the end it is left there you don’t take it .

What about the Egyptians, the Pharaoh’s, you lived there for two years. They prepared everything for the one that comes after, especially the thieves. They prepared the jewelry for the thieves that come and take after 4000 years to be very easy food to take and run. Who did that?

Amazing grace. Sometimes they put that show on TV, Amazing Grace. It is amazing race. Everyone is racing the other. They call horse race. Leave horse race there is nothing there. There is horse running, running and [this is falling up] and then they take money. That is gambling, taking money. Maysara. They used to throw dice and make money. Allah doesn’t like it.

And these horses, especially made in Arab countries, and they are $20, 30 million and their owners are very proud of them, and this life is an amazing race. Where to race.

Race means who is going to win and who is going to be first. That is race. And amazing might be very high, distinguished race. I am looking and saying SubhanAllah what is an amazing grace? That has no explanation. You cannot explain it. That people from different areas, from different places, are been moved into an area, all of them to come and sit and meet and show their respect and love. And for what? For what reason? Except love to Allah, and love to the Prophet (s) and love to Mawlana Shaykh. They are coming from different areas and from different places meeting together in order that to spend some time to get a blink of the shaykh’s look; they are happy and they go.

Look at awliyaullah how much people are happy only enough to come to their door and go. What is there? What makes that happen? They go to where the shaykh is … I saw that in Grandshaykh time, I saw that in Mawlana Shaykh’s time. I am speaking of followers of Grandshaykh and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim. There are other shuyukh I am not speaking about them.

And especially in this country. You cannot find in this number, big number, huge number, although not in millions, but whatever it is, people spending saving and spending only to be able to go and visit, even standing at the door. It is the secret in the place? Or the secret is in the inhabitant of that place? Of course for sure the secret is the inhabitant of that place that makes that amazing race, everyone is racing first to be there. Because his love is pushing him. That inspiration that comes to his mind, moving him in this direction. It is like a mall, that can fit 5000 people for example, but you have 10,000 people. It is so congested.

So we can’t even give a small description although it is not too much appropriate that that place that mureeds of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim are going like a place, a mall, where they can find everything they like to buy and go back. They are satisfying their ambitions and getting their necessities and recharging their batteries in that mall that has everything. Nothing is missing there, you can go to any store and say “I want this,” and they say “sorry we don’t have it.” But there, everything is available because It is a place where that inhabitant, meaning that wali, that that shaykh turned in to a magnet that pulled people to it every day from around the globe.

Look at another example bigger than this one, although awliyaullah have high levels, that is up to Allah. Look at Arafat. “Al-hajju `arafa - Hajj is to be on the mountain or plain of Arafat.” What is there? Look what you see there. It is a plain desert. Now they have nice trees and water coming from everyone and better tents. But in reality it is a desert. This year they say 3 million hajj there. This year 1429. what is there, what they are buying and selling what kind of a mall there? There is you find everything. It is a huge mall that anything you want you find and you buy. And it is like also amazing grace, they want to reach as soon as possible, especially on Jabal Rahmat that the Prophet (s) went and gave his famous khutbat al-wida` [farewell sermon]. What they want to get there. Of course everyone will say they get Allah’s forgiveness. That is for sure. But Allah will forgive us wherever we are. You ask, “O Allah forgive us for the sake of
Your Prophet.” You think Allah will not forgive? But there is something special there that Allah gave to that plain, to that place; to `Arafah.

Ka`batullah. The house of Allah swt. Everyone is running 5 times a day, directing his face towards Ka`bah. Who built the Ka`bah. They say first who built it was Sayyidina Adam and then Sayyidina Ibrahim rebuilded it. They build it from what? From stones. Are they special stones or normal stones? But they built a house, very beautiful , very nice, open the door there is nothing inside. Allah wants everyone to direct his face there.

Why there? Why in this desert? Must be secret there is something that we cannot understand. It is amazing.

The Haram an-Nabawi. The Prophet (s)’s house, the prophet’s holy grave. I don’t like to call it a grave but people will not understand. Millions and millions are attracted there. They go there. What is there? There is someone. There is someone there. Who is that one?

He is the one that Allah created first from His light. He is there. O then people are running to whom? To the mosque? Or to the one who is there? You say I am running to a building or to the inhabitant of the building? I am running to that one, Sayyidina Muhammad (s).

Sayyidina Zakariyya to whom he run? To Sayyida Maryam. Not … the house, the mihraab became holy because of her presence. So It means the presence of that one makes you to run in an amazing grace, to reach as soon as possible to get the baraka from what is there. So ok, we understand now, in Madinatu’l-munawarra, we have Sayyidina Muhammad (s), we run there. In Mecca in Ka`bah we run there why? There must be someone. We run there we say It is the House of Allah we direct our face to pray there, yes of course. From different direction. But Allah said to Holy Prophet (s), “Neither heavens nor earth contain me but heart of believer contains Me.”

Is the Ka`bah part of heavens and earth or not? It is but …

Allah said in holy hadith, “qalb al-mumin Bayt ar-rabb - The heart of believer is the House of Allah.” You have a house there. You have to be believer to see it. You have to be in a race a struggle with Shaytan to remove these veils.

So what we are focusing on is that there must be an inhabitant, like magnets pulling people and bringing them to that presence.

Who is on Jabal Rahmat. Who is in Ka`batullah? Who is in house of the Prophet (s)? Sayyidina Muhammad (s). Who is there? It means that Allah has appointed someone that inhabits these places.

Like you go to visit Mawlana Shaykh Nazim. Are you going and visiting the house or him himself? Visiting Sultan al-awliya? Visiting the house or him? Him. If he doesn’t see you, you get upset. You say, "O my Shaykh didn’t see me. He didn’t give me 5 minutes even’ although he is there but still you want to see, you want kashf to see.

But there are places that you cannot see because you are not to that level. You are sure thing that when you visit the Prophet’s holy house, holy grave there is no higher level than that. Of course there is. Awliyaullah they see the Prophet (s) and meet with the Prophet (s) in different shapes and stations according to the level they are in.

That is why one time, may Allah bless his soul, Grandshaykh, why every one when he comes to Ka`bah he begins from Hajaru ’l-aswad, he has to begin his tawaaf from there? What you say? When you enter to do tawaaf? Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem Allahu akbar. And raise your hands. Why do you raise your hands? When you want to greet someone what do you do in a discipline way? You raise you hand and give greeting and go.

Raising your hand to that beautiful stone from Paradise is to give salam and asking permission to do tawaaf. If you don’t do that your tawaaf is not going to be special it will be like others. When you raise your hand it is different than putting hand on heart. When you put hand on heart there is a relation. Respect. But when you raise your hands what are you doing. Surrendering and salvation. But surrendering. I am coming to your presence to you surrendering. And then you begin by permission your tawaaf. Then you feel different than what normally you do. You have a different tawaaf.

Why Sayyidina `Ali (r), when Sayyidina `Umar (r) mentioned about that, "O stone. You are not except a stone, you don’t benefit of kissing you or not, but since I saw my beloved prophet kissing you I kissed you.” but what did Sayyidina `Ali (r) say? He said, "Ya `Umar (r) don’t say that. That stone is going to witness for you, for your Islam on Judgment Day. It is going to witness your salaam on Judgment Day. And it is going to be witness for you in akhira.”

So when you say, "Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem Allah Akbar,” raising your hands, surrendering. It means, “I am lost, I am in a race but that race took me to Shaytan. I am coming the race of the way of Rahman, I am surrendering.” That stone is witnessing.

So there is a focal point of gravity, in every place there is a focal point in visiting countries. They say there are seven wonders of the world and in every country you also find seven wonders. There is a landmark wherever you go. There must be landmark of a will there. We are only looking the landmark of stone or statue or building. There must be land mark of something different than everything else. There is landmark in Muzdalifa, there is a landmark in Mina; there is a landmark in Arafat.

What is the land mark in Mina? It is the jamaraat - the place where they throw stones at Shaytan. And every stone as much as it is small it is more baraka. Some people take their shoes and throw it; it is rendered on the angels on their face. As much as you throw smaller, it is like the size of earth coming on Shaytan, hitting him and killing him and until Allah gives him life back. Him and his army are killed and then coming back as Allah wills.

There must be a landmark.

The landmark of Madina is the Prophet (s). It is not the masjid. The masjid has been built up and renovated and nothing of the old masjid is left. No it has all been built up.

Imam Malik he told Sultan al-Mansour, when he asked him if he should face the qiblah or face the Prophet (s), during his visit to his holy grave, “face the one whom by him you know the qiblah.”[1] Not the qiblah, but the one who brought you qiblah.

So there must be a landmark - that is what is important.

The landmark of visiting Mawlana Shaykh is not the house. It is him in the house.

Grandshaykh, what is the landmark of Ka`bah. There must be a landmark.

He said that awliyaullah they know. There is one that Allah called him Yameen Allah al al-ard - He is Allah’s Power on earth. Allah dressed him with that dress. He is always there when awliyaullah come there they see him. That Hajaru ’l-aswad is his window to paradise. Always sitting at that corner. You see today the army standing there to move people because it is too crowded.

He said if his presence is not there no one will come. His presence is like a magnet attracting people. He looks at the preserved tablets and see who is this year coming and sends that inspiration to their hearts. That Is his duty. Don’t say it is too much you didn’t heart anything yet. This is like “abc” and kindergarten. When Mahdi comes then …

He said he is there and when anyone is on preserved tablets sends message, as today they send sms. You are in eat he is in west. And punch key and send message. Cannot a wali do that. He can send message to the heart. He is like the magnet that everything will be running to him. He is the governor or Mecca, the hidden the spiritual one. That is why, we are not speaking about his maqaam yet, we leave that to later, but he said at that time, “I am that one whom the Prophet (s) gave me that specialty to be present at that spot at Hajaru ’l-aswad and I am dressing to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim as my successor. Without that presence no one will go there.”

What kind of a maqaam or a level Allah gave, we leave it. In Arafat who is there that brings all these people together? There must be someone that prophet gave that authority from Allah swt.

We discuss next time.

So the most important is to look how we are amazed, I gave that example to go to bigger example. That is how people from every country are going to meet, because of the secret of that person who has that responsibility. That is because they have been called. They come by car by plane by boat by truck, they travel 20, 30 hours.

This is a small destination. The biggest is the headquarters destination is what makes you amazed. This is because Mawlana Shaykh Nazim his name makes people to turn. And as we say always, we have to say and confess and not to try to hide here and there. There is no Shaykh except Mawlana Shaykh there is no calipha, no representative, no successor. I don’t believe in that. There is Mawlana Shaykh Nazim. There are responsible, and they are on my head. But they have to know they are not the Shaykh and not to call to themselves. May Allah forgive us and bless us and give long life to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim,

Wa min Allah at-tawfeeq bi-hurmati 'l-Fatiha

Today is breakfast in the mosque and it is kafarat adh-dhunoob from today up to last year and since last year you fasted Arafat beyond that and beyond that. And insha-Allah Allah forgives us all our sins today and share us with the pilgrims with their hajj and their ziyarah to the Prophet and share with their blessing and their prayers, and up to the time of the Prophet (s) and we are asking that Allah will share with us the prayers of the Prophet (s) and his `ibadah and, "O Allah share with us the awliyaullah Grandshaykh and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Adil al-Haqqani.

Bi-hurmatil- habeeb, bi-hurmati 'l-Fatiha. Taqabal Allah.

[1] Imam Malik was asked the following question by the Caliph Abu Ja`far al-Mansur: "Shall I face the Qibla with my back towards the grave of the Messenger of Allah when making du`a (after salams)?" He replied:

How could you turn your face away from him when he is the means (wasila) of your and your father Adam's forgiveness to Allah on the Day of Resurrection? Nay, face him and ask for his intercession (istashfi` bihi) so that Allah will grant it to you as He said: "If they had only, when they were wronging themselves, come unto thee and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful (4:64)."

Run to the Cave!!!

Audhu billah min ash-shaytan ir-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem
Nawaytu'l-arba` een, nawaytu'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu'l-khalwah, nawaytu'l-riyaada, nawaytu's-salook, nawaytu'l-`uzlah lillahi ta`ala fee hadha'l-masjid. Allahuma salli `ala Sayyidina Muhammad (s)

Dastoor ya sayyidee madad!

Days are passing and death is approaching. As days are passing, as death is approaching. And for sure that we are struggling between what is good and what is not good, between what is good and what is evil. And that is why Allah swt and the blessings of His Prophet Sayyidina Muhammad (s) bringing us together in such associations in order that we will be cleaned and turned as if we are born this moment.

Awliyaullah Allah’s saints, Allah’s friends, the pious sincere servants of Allah swt they run to a place; they run to their caves. Allah swt said in Holy Qur'an:

Those who were running in Surat al-Kahf, the Surah of the Cave, telling to those who were running away from the tyranny of that king, seven of them, might be five, might be seven, as mentioned in the Holy Qur'an,

Sa-yaqooloona thalaathatun rabi`uhum kalbuhum wa yaqooloona khamsatun saadisuhum kalbuhum rajman bi ’l-ghaybi wa yaqooloona sab`atun wa thaaminuhum kalbuhum qul rabbee a`lamu bi`iddatihim ma ya`lamuhum illa qaleelun fala tumari feehim illa miraan dhaahiran wala tastafti feehim minhum ahada.

(Some) say they were three, the dog being the fourth among them; (others) say they were five, the dog being the sixth,- doubtfully guessing at the unknown; (yet others) say they were seven, the dog being the eighth. Say thou: "My Lord knoweth best their number; It is but few that know their (real case)." Enter not, therefore, into controversies concerning them, except on a matter that is clear, nor consult any of them about (the affair of) the Sleepers. Al-Kahf [18:22]

Allah said: There might be three and the dog is the fourth; and it might be five and the dog is the sixth; and it might be seven, and the dog is eight.

They were group of people running from the tyranny of the king and their dog with them. What Allah said to them? To avoid the tyranny of that king the tyranny of that person.

When ye turn away from them and the things they worship other than Allah, betake yourselves to the Cave: Your Lord will shower His mercies on you and disposes of your affair towards comfort and ease." Al-Kahf [18:16]

There in the cave Allah will spread His mercy on you and there He will arrange and fix your problem .

That is message for everyone to run from tyranny is to run to the cave. Any tyranny you have to run to the cave, means avoid them by running to a safe place. And where is that safe place. Where people have to run?

Everyone Allah swt guided him to a cave. It means turn to your Lord, run from the tyranny of shaytan; from the tyranny of evil power and reach running and struggling towards a distance that you can find finally at the end, if you keep running, you don’t say I am waiting until I find safety. If you are running for safety you have to keep running keep running until Allah gave them safety in that cave.

Our duty is to run for safety not out duty to sit on our chairs and say we are not interested. Then fire will reach you. Then evilness will reach you. you have to keep moving and this keep moving means keep struggling with your ego, with yourself until you reach the cave, and everyone has a cave in himself Allah did not create us with no safety. There is safety. Allah created sickness and he created a cure. Is it not, doctor? Dr. Nazeer?

Every sickness there is a medicine, that is Allah’s Mercy. For every illness there is a cure.

The Prophet (s) said, that “Every illness has a cure and every food has an illness and a cure except rice.” Rice no sickness from it. Rice is a complete cure to human being. So it means that for everything that Allah created what is good and to leave the bad.

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا

Fa-alhamaha fujooraha wa taqwaaha - And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right. Shams 91:8

He inspired the self with what is good and what is bad. First was bad as he always put the warning first. … put good at the end.

So that cave is our connection with our mashaykh. They are our caves. When Sayyidina Muhammad (s) left with Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, from Mecca to Madina where did they go? They went to the cave. What happened in the cave. Tranquility, tamaaneena came. Correct? Tranquility came. If they didn’t go to the cave, tranquility will not come. So Allah gave them a place. What Sayyidina Muhammad (s) said?

La tahzan inna Allaha ma`na. he said to his companion, his friend, don’t get sad, Allah is with us.

And awliyaullah explained that Sayyidina Abu Bakr did not get sad that he is in problem but he got sad that the Prophet’s head on his lap and the snake came. That is why he was sad. And he said to him “don’t be sad, Allah is with us.”

That means when you enter the cave He takes you to the presence of the Prophet (s), then you fall under the ayah:

Illa tansuroohu faqad nasarahu Allahu ith akhrajahu alladheena kafaroo thaaniya ithnayni ith huma fee alghari ith yaqoolu lisahibihi la tahzan inna Allaha ma`ana fa-anzala Allahu sakeenatahu `alayhi wa ayyadahu bi-junoodin lam tarawha waja`ala kalimata allatheena kafaroo as-sufla wakalimatu Allahi hiya al`ulya w’Allahu `azeezun Hakeem.

If ye help not (your leader), (it is no matter): for Allah did indeed help him, when the Unbelievers drove him out: he had no more than one companion; they two were in the cave, and he said to his companion, "Have no fear, for Allah is with us": then Allah sent down His peace upon him, and strengthened him with forces which ye saw not, and humbled to the depths the word of the Unbelievers. But the word of Allah is exalted to the heights: for Allah is Exalted in might, Wise. At-Tauba [9:40]

So that is message to everyone keep moving fwd. don’t sit and relax. No, then shaytaan will play. That is why our duty is to keep guiding ourselves to our goal and our goal is to connect our heart to the heart of our teacher. How to connect? Through that light that comes from his heart to our heart. You are expert in that professor, how to make lights connect to each other. Plug means plug that light that is coming from them.

At night you want to plug in the socket, you keep trying, until you find the right place and you put it in. This is our problem; we are veiled we cannot see.

So some people cannot see their nose. You have to close one eye to see your nose. With two eyes you have to focus inwards. But close one and you can see from this side.

So that means always keep your looking down, not always trying to look up everything.

Awliyaullah always look to where they are putting their feet in order to walk to step.

So when they put and reach their cave, Allah gives them knowledge is it not? What you say about them? When they are bringing this knowledge? People who understand say that is ma`rifatullah. They call it ma`rifatullah. In reality it is about ma`rifah about Allah you cannot know Allah but you know about him.

You know about Allah swt. How can know Allah swt? Prophet when he reach the maqaam of qaba qawsayni aw adna he said, "O my Lord I am only an abd, I am nothing.” When he saw the greatness that Allah opened to him in his Mi’raj, so in comparison to what Allah wants him to see he says, “I am nothing, I am nothing but a human being revealed to me.” It is out of humbleness he is saying this.

So when Allah loves His servant He dresses him.

Today doctors, these doctors, any more doctors. We have 3 doctors and you are a professor these doctors if someone comes and acts strangely they say he is psycho, is he not? What other word? He is crazy. He doesn’t know what he is saying. He hears commands and orders. Technophrenic. Doctor. Because he is already.

So because they are whispering in their minds these different they are getting different negative energy they get to their mind. Because there is normal mind of human being here and they are on lower side, not understanding. There are awliyaullah on this level above normal human being, they are superior they reach high level. At that time they reach positive knowledge. When they reach this knowledge they are schizophrenic in Allah’s love. They become there, their personality is one with you and one with the Prophet, and the Prophet is in Allah’s Presence. All their knowledge becomes from heavenly knowledge. Of course no one can understand it. That is why they said about Muhyideen ibn Arabi Qaddasallahu Sirrahu, accusing him, no one can understand what they are saying. That is what they said about many saints. They cannot understand them. So this is normal reading and writing. You go a bit higher you cannot understand you are lost.

So those who are attracted that Allah put in their heart, then they go beyond. When Allah opened for their hearts the six types of knowledge which we explained many times, haqiqat al-fayd, haqiqat al-jazbah, haqiqat at-tawajjuh, haqiqat at-tawwasul, haqiqat at-tayy, haqiqat al-irshaad. Six realities when these are opened in their hearts their knowledge become above normal human knowledge above what people have iq. What is normal iq? 160. So they go above that iq. And some awliyaullah go above these six realities. They go into a level that is maqam adh-dharrah, maqam dharraat adh-dharrah, khafa, akhfa.

When you zoom in, in the computer. When you zoom out you see general picture. when you zoom in, in google map you, in sky or on earth you go more in and more in an more and more precise, awliyaullah they go to atom, that means smallest zooming possible that they go into the fine middle of the center of the circle. There are awliyaullah that go to dharraat adh-dharrah. Imagine in your mind the atom of the atom. They go to there until they reach a level of khafa, which is hidden which is in hand of the Prophet (s). And then the Prophet (s), Allah opens for him the maqaam al-khafa - the most hidden. Akhfa.

These knowledges of course no one is going to understand them from the normal level.

So awliyaullah go into a state of trance where they say things that you cannot focus on it. So when we explain that in brief and said that he said that Allah swt created everything… everything that He created is for Prophet (s). Everything that is other than Allah, means whatever Allah created from universes, from heavens, from earth from everything, is for Sayyidina Muhammad (s); for that reality that is a present in Allah’s Presence continuously. Allah is sending on that presence continuously with non-stopping and in every moment the Prophet (s) is increasing double of what he was before and that is beginning from beginning of creation and it is going on. He is not only the Prophet (s) of earth and human race but he is the Prophet (s) of any other creation that Allah created and we don’t know.

He is the one that through him go to angels in heavens in Paradise. He said, "lam yujidhu la shay, He didn’t bring anything into existence except that is all to the Prophet (s), because when He created these existences (in plural), all these existences are praising Allah swt in its own way. That one doesn’t know the other what he is saying.

Every leaf of the tree, not only that, but every atom of the leaf of the tree, is praising Allah, earth, heavens, other planets everywhere. If you want to think about it, it is beyond our understanding, especially to the professor, as he is a physics man. He put together the Hubble telescope. You know the universe how high it is and he was explaining to me today they are putting something together more powerful than the Hubble Telescope.

So imagine every star and every atom in every star,... Look at our planet. How many constellations we have? Billions. Around the sun and earth these 12 constellations, they are 12. These what you call in English, zodiac, balance, these are 12. when the earth is moving around the sun it passes by them, is it not? And it begins from 21 to 21. it is fixed time a cycle to go from one to the other and moving around the sun.

Look at these fixed constellations and SubhanAllah that Allah gave them shape that no one can put like that it is impossible. To show He gave them shapes and put stars together in a way that you can describe as a shape. If we look at this alone we are amazed. And they tell us there is some significance, what will happen, what will happen. Then if all these He created for sake of the Prophet (s). We are lucky because these the Prophet (s) gave to his Ummah.

When Grandshaykh and Mawlana Shaykh describing these it goes beyond normal understanding and people cannot understand what they are saying.

And he said, "also angels and all eight paradises and all earth, and everything that is in this universe, Allah swt ordered them continuing praising Him and worshipping Him and some of them prostrating, some of them on their knees, some of them standing, as he mentioned in the Holy Qur'an:

الَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَىَ جُنُوبِهِمْ وَيَتَفَكَّرُونَ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَذا بَاطِلاً سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Alladheena yadhkuroon’Allaha qiyaaman waqu`oodan wa `ala junoobihim wa yatafakkaroona fee khalqi’s-samawaati wa ’l-ardi rabbana ma khalaqta haadhaa baatilan subhanaka faqina `adhaaba an-naar.

Men who celebrate the praises of Allah, standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and contemplate the (wonders of) creation in the heavens and the earth, (With the thought): "Our Lord! not for naught Hast Thou created (all) this! Glory to Thee! Give us salvation from the penalty of the Fire. Ali-`Imran [3:191]

Who are those?

Human beings? It means anyone that Allah created is in complete worshipness. Angels, jinn, human beings animals, trees, everything, water, anything that we know., together with what we don’t k now of heavenly creature or different creature that Allah created together with the planets they are on, are all together worshipping and praising standing and sitting and bowing.

And Allah made them all, and He said, "I am explaining the verse ‘We have honored human beings.’” The honor that Allah made for human beings makes the worship of all those creations [a gift] for the human beings. [As Allah is saying:] Without differentiation, all that I created and they are worshipping Me, O Muhammad (s), I am giving to the human race.”

Wa laqad karramnaa banee adama wa hamalnaahum fi’l-barri wa ’l-bahri wa razaqnaahum mina’t-tayyibaati wa faddalnaahum `ala katheerin mimman khalaqnaa tafdeela.

We have honored the sons of Adam; provided them with transport on land and sea; given them for sustenance things good and pure; and conferred on them special favours, above a great part of our creation. Al-Isra [17:70]

Allah is as if saying: “These heavenly beings, subtle beings, these atoms that are created in these planets and in all creation, plants and waters and all things. They don’t need to worship. But I made them to worship and give all that worship to you.”

“Because all of that I created from My light and My light doesn’t need to worship, but I made them to worship and I gave it to those whom I created from My light, the Prophet’s light and Adam’s light.”

Grandshaykh said, “if people know that Allah gave to them what Allah blessed them, then no one will worship if He gives from that knowledge. Everyone will sit back and say, ‘O I am saved.’ But Allah wants us to worship and to show our love to Him; to pray and fast and give charity and perform hajj, to acknowledge that Allah is our Creator and Sayyidina Muhammad (s) is His sincere messenger. We want to show Him our love - that is why we are worshipping. “And,” [as if Allah is saying], “they will not worship if I open [that secret] to them. I want to see how much they love Me, if they worship or not.”

If you give someone a big jar of honey, can he eat it? No he can eat only one spoon.

So Allah gave us one big jar of honey, but Allah is giving us only one spoon to eat.

Awliyaullah they pick up these knowledges.

And although the saying is true, “sayyid al-qawmi khadimuhum - the master of a people is the one who serves them.” So by making them to worship Allah and praise Him then Allah also gives them rewards as they didn’t do it for themselves but they did it for us and they did that worship and then said, " this is for Ummat an-Nabi” so they fall under that khitaab “sayyid al-qawmi kahdimuh.” So you go to a rich person, who is rich. You don’t go to a poor one. You don’t go to a disco person in the day and at night you go to the wali to repent. He is rich, Allah.

He guides you and directs you what to do. He said Allah swt did not create a wali and not a nabi, knows what Allah will give His servants on Judgment Day. He will open it to Sayyidina Muhammad (s) on that day. He said that now, whatever the Prophet (s) is now getting he knows about what he is getting and he knows what he is giving to the Ummah but he doesn’t know what Allah will open to him on Judgment Day.

That is why the Prophet (s) said, "on Judgment Day I will go into sajda, and Allah opens to my heart what he never opened before.” That means in all time, whatever he is ascending and raising in knowledge double and double and double, it will be even more than that. And he asks three times and Allah gives and gives and gives, so that no one will be left out of heaven.

And this is part of Mawlana Shaykh’s suhbat and it is to tell us that no one knows what Allah will give on Judgment Day. Everyone is swimming on the beach on the shore and no one entered yet into what Allah will give. He is happy with his feet in the water he has only a little water.

People are going and passing and death is coming. What you see there is not what we see here. Allah’s Mercy is big. We are asking, “Ya Rabbee, make our grave a paradise of Your paradises; make our grave to be neighbor and to be under the feet of the Prophet (s); to be under the feet of Grandshaykh. To be under feet of Sayyidina Abu Bakr Radiallahu anhu, under the feet of Sayyidina `Umar Radiallahu anhu. To be under the feet of Sayyidina `Uthman (r); to be under the feet of Sayyidina `Ali (r). To be under the feet of all the Sahaba, of azwaaj an-Nabi, that is where we hope and we are asking for sake of Your beloved one and for the sake of Your awliyaullah, grant us to be at feet of Your Prophet, dunya and akhira.

Wa min Allah at-tawfeeq bi-hurmati 'l-Fatiha.
